If you haven’t spent a night away from your little ones recently, you need to!

Trust me, I know it’s hard to step back and take a break.  (If you haven’t read my previous blog on how much work it is to pack up and leave, I highly recommend you start there.)  As hard as it is to find time to leave the kids alone, it is so worth it in the end.

Did I think of my kids while we spent the weekend in Chicago?  Yes, of course.  Did I regret my decision to leave them with the in-laws for the weekend?  Not at all.

Not only did I get some MUCH needed adult time, but a few other amazing things happened from me “checking out” from momma life.

  • I got uninterrupted sleep. No monitor, no kids waking at 2am to pee, no morning wake up call before the sun rises.  It was glorious!! I actually think I might have grown an inch taller from all this rest!
  • I got to reconnect with the husband.  We had actual adult conversations and didn’t have to spell any words while talking due to little ears overhearing.  We got to eat and drink whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted to!
  • I got to feel like someone other than just a mom.  I got to be a friend, a wife, and even a tourist for a weekend.
  • I got to actually miss and want to see my kids again.  Sounds bad, but the truth is, sometimes you need a break to miss the things that you love.  I will not get so annoyed when the little stinkers start fighting when I get home, because I didn’t have to deal with it for 48 hours.

Trust me, take that break Momma!! You’ll feel like a whole new person once you do.

Hopefully your kids will appreciate you more when you get home.  Maybe they will even miss you a little more than you expected!

(I might be counting down the minutes to my next escape already!!)
