My oldest is just now in half day Kindergarten; she’s been in preschool for the past 3 years so we are no strangers to school.  She has had homework in the past (rarely), and she has struggled with it just about every time it has reared it’s head.  (Of course the decorate a Christmas tree or the draw a magical scene projects were never a problem!)

Oh, don’t get me wrong, she’s not struggling to learn the work; she’s struggling to sit still and focus long enough to do it.  The whining and the complaining is going to do me in!!  She’s a smart girl, maybe a little too smart sometimes.  I’ve learned with her that basically if she doesn’t want to do something it’s quite the struggle to get her to do it.

The good news is she does what her teacher says at school; she completes her papers and participates in the classroom.  The bad news is, she clearly doesn’t view me as a teacher.  She seriously will look at me like I have 2 heads when I tell her instructions for her homework.  Should I just hire a “homework nanny” and cut my losses now?!?  I can see my next 13+ years of homework struggle ahead… Oh my!!

Wish me luck and I hope any other parents out there who find themselves in the same boat can figure it a way to not lose their minds.
