I think we all have times when we fantasize about living somewhere else, near a beach perhaps.  I know I find myself wondering from time to time if we will raise our kids in the Chicago suburbs their entire childhoods, or if we will move somewhere more “desirable” before they turn into young adults.  I have a feeling I’m not alone in this.

I always dream of moving in the winter since winters here can be daunting.  I still remember the winter after our daughter was born; negative temperatures for months and I was beginning to think she may never see the outside world.  I often see friends’ and family’s pictures of their picturesque yards and amazing locations, and sit back and wonder how our lives would be different if we didn’t live in the Midwest.

Well, now that we have called this Midwestern suburb home for almost 10 years I can firmly say I’m happy with where we are, and the location we have chosen to raise these little humans.  They are learning some important life lessons from living where we do.  They see the seasons change, learn a wide range of weather hazards from frostbite to tornadoes, and learn it doesn’t matter the physical location of where you are as long as you make where you are feel like home.  They appreciate vacations a lot more too!!

I might not have amazing views and might get stuck in traffic jams more regularly than not, but I wouldn’t have it any other way right now.  Who knows where life will take us?  I am going to enjoy the ride and enjoy this home we have made and this “village” we have found to raise our kids in.

I’ll take it!
