My daughter just completed a week at a local safety town and I have to tell you it’s the best thing I could have signed her up for!! Not only did she love going every day, but she learned some great rules and tricks that I hadn’t thought to teach her.

This was the most organized summer camp I’ve ever experienced. The kids got matching shirts with their name tags already attached on day 1. Their name tags had a symbol on them which helped the kids locate their groups and the moms locate them at pick up. (My daughter was a fire truck and was super pumped about it!)

I LOVED how the kids were taught by high school volunteers. I think it made a bigger impact on my 5 year old to have a “big kid” teach her and direct her through the town.

Each day a different “safety person” would come and talk to the kids. They had a 911 dispatcher, firemen, police officers, ambulance EMT personnel, utility worker and swimming instructors all come and present. I learned about smart911.com from the town and I’m so happy I registered there in case we ever need it. I also never thought to talk about electrical safety with my daughter and they did.

The kids also got to learn the “rules of the road” while riding on adorable tricycles with hand brakes. They ride through a small town, over covered bridges and even through a train crossing. I left camp everyday a little jealous that I couldn’t play there. You all know I love safety!!

If you have a safety town near you I highly recommend signing your kids up. The perfect age they said at her camp was for kids entering kindergarten or first grade.

Yay for safety town!!
